How do I become a Sylvania Community Stores and Café Shareholder?

We have  a community share scheme in order to cover expenses such as paying for manager salaries and buying new equipment.

Here is your chance to become part of this wonderful project:

  • Become a member by buying one (or ideally more!) community shares at £25 each that raises money needed to run the stores
  • Sylvania Community Stores and Café is run and owned by the community, for the community.
  • Our project creates profits for the good of the community and provides a hub of activity.
  • We have a  friendly, welcoming place for all with activities in arts, craft, story telling and more…
  • We are a Community Benefit Society, registered by the Financial Conduct Authority.
  • The shop stocks a range of goods to meet all needs. Let us know what you want.
  • The café is a meeting place, bringing people together.
  • We have many volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working in the shop and café.
  • The management committee are all local residents and will not profit from this project.
  • We always aim to be highly environmentally friendly.
  • Surplus funds are reinvested in the shop and café and donations made to local clubs and societies.
  • The success rate for community shops is 96% (Plunkett Foundation).
  • As a shareholder you will have a say in the running of the project with a vote at the AGM (Annual General Meeting). You will be kept informed with regular newsletters.
  • Your share will not pay a financial return. It entitles you to become a member.
