Sylvania Community Stores and Café is a community benefit society which means we are run by a committee of local residents. After extensive research, we opened in July 2021 supported by Exeter City Council and a few other grants. However, we now have very little external funding. We are a not-for-profit co-operative with large overheads so please support us by using our shop and café as often as you can.
We do a Big Breakfast on the first Saturday of every month (9:00 – 11:00) and have Quiz Nights and Jazz Nights roughly every 2 months.
Our prices compare well with local supermarkets, and we are just a short walk away if you live on the Pennsylvania estate. We are available for convenience shopping and locally produced treats like honey and strawberries. We stock essential and speciality groceries and champion sustainable locally made products. We value all customer requests so if you can’t see something that you would like to buy – just ask us.
We have a number of shareholders who support us financially by purchasing shares, but they also contribute thoughts and ideas to help us become more effective. If you would like to purchase a share of £25, or more if you wish, please find out more here. We hold regular shareholder meetings, and we send out newsletters to keep them informed of developments.
